Earth Day is celebrated all over the world on April 22. The first Earth Day took place in 1970 and was a result of growing ecological awareness through Rachel Carson's 1962 bestseller Silent Spring. In a sense, therefore, the day marks the beginning of the modern environmental movement. In this blog we will tell you more about Earth Day and what you can give back to nature.

Celebrating Earth Day

Earth Day is all about environmental protection. On this international day, people try to make an effort for our planet. Now, more than ever, it is extremely important and necessary that we try to do our best for the Earth. There is still time to save our world, but this time is rapidly running out.

How can you help? Easy! There are so many ways in which you can help. Below we will list a few, but you can of course also use your creativity.

Donate to conservation

An easy option is to donate to a charity that is committed to conservation / biodiversity. For example, on Trees For All . They plant trees and thereby contribute to strengthening biodiversity on Earth.

Another possibility is Naturalis . As a Biodiversity Center, they research nature and map it for others. In this way, biodiversity is preserved. Part of Zenvya's jewelery can also be found in the Naturalis museum shop.

Plant yourself

Would you like to roll up your sleeves? Then go plant some yourself! There are a lot of flowers and trees that help the bees or other insects.

Clean up litter

You can also get started by cleaning up garbage on the street, for example throwing away bags and bottles. Plastic is a major culprit for nature.

Eat vegan

Another way to contribute is to eat vegetarian or vegan more often. Researchers have calculated that if everyone became vegan, we would need less land than we currently use for agriculture. Then it would no longer even be necessary to cut down rainforests and we could even give pieces of land back to nature.

Watch your garbage

Throw away less food or try to take new steps towards zero waste. For example, separate plastic, waste paper and food. When shopping, bring your own bag and reuse your water bottle.

Save on your energy

Then finally, you've probably heard them before, but get on a bike or take public transport instead of the car. Turn off the lights when you are not at home or in a room, take a shorter shower or turn down the heating.
